A Buzz About The Oscars!
Hollywood is a buzz. Yes!
As you all know, the Academy Awards held their Oscar night last night and, although it was a little different this year in that it did not have a host, it certainly provided a lot of entertainment.
From the beginning when all the “stars” arrive to the end when they presented the Oscar for the Best Picture to “Green Book” it kept us captivated.
So, for another year, we have witnessed Hollywood’s greatest night and we were not disappointed.
Here are a few fun facts about the Oscars:
The youngest ever award winner is Tatum O’Neal. She won Best Supporting Actress for Paper Moon (1973) when she was only 10 years old.
The oldest award winner is Christopher Plummer, who at 82, won for Best Actor in a Supporting role for the film Beginners (2010).
Meryl Streep has been nominated a record 21 times, winning two Best Actress Oscars for Sophie’s Choice (1983) and The Iron Lady (2012) and one Best Supporting actress for Kramer vs. Kramer(1980).
Katherine Hepburn has won the most Best Actress Oscars for On Golden Pond (1981), The Lion in Winter (1968), Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner (1967) and Morning Glory (1933).
With 10 wins, Italy is the country with the most number of wins for Foreign Language Film at the Oscars.
The Godfather: Part II (1974) is the only sequel to have won the Best Picture award.
First African American winner was Sidney Poitier, who won the Best Actor award, for his role in Lilies of the Field (1963).
First deaf winner was Marlee Matlin became the first deaf actress to win an Oscar, for the film Children of a Lesser God in 1987.
Longest speech was given by Greer Garson, totaling five minutes and 30 seconds, after winning her Best Actress award for the film Mrs. Miniver (1942).
And a bit of news from last night, Lady Gaga wore a necklace featuring a 141-year old Tiffany diamond, dubbed “one of the largest yellow diamonds in the world.” It is reportedly worth over $30 million, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The 128.54 carat gemstone (yes you read that right) is as exclusive as it is expensive. In fact, the diamond was last worn over 50 years ago by none other than Audrey Hepburn during a publicity photo shoot for the 1961 film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”
