Turkey Meatballs with Gravy and Cranberry Sauce
Meatballs
2 lbs. ground turkey
1 onion minced
2 eggs
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoons sea salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons sunflower oil
Gravy
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 cup turkey or chicken broth
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon dill weed
Cranberry Sauce
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 12oz bag fresh cranberries
For the meatballs:
Mix together meat and remaining ingredients except butter and oil. Work ingredients just until mixed together, but be careful not to over work as this will make your meatballs tough. Take pieces the size of walnuts and roll in your palms to make balls. Brown meatballs in butter and oil. Remove from the pan once they are browned and are cooked through, about 6-7 minutes. Keep warm while you are browning the rest of the meatballs.
For the gravy:
When all the meatballs are browned add remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the drippings in the pan. Add flour and stir until flour just begins to brown. Stir in broth and cook until sauce begins to thicken slightly. Add sour cream and dill. Heat through, then return meatballs, and any juice they have produced, to the gravy.
Cranberry Sauce
Bring water and sugar to a boil. Add cranberries and cook for 10 minutes. Stir occasionally while cooking. Remove from heat an cool. Refrigerate until ready to use.
Cover meatballs in sauce and serve over mashed potatoes with cranberry sauce on the side. Bon appetit!
