Sweet And Spicy Popcorn – A Treat For Dad

When you asked them what an ideal afternoon would look like, many men would say that it involves getting comfortable in their favorite chair, flipping on the TV to watch their favorite team, with some great snacks close by.  We can’t help you with the rest but we’ve got a great snack you can make for dad on his day 🙂When a treat is sweet and salty and spicy and crunchy all at the same time, it is bound to be a hit.  This Sweet and Spicy Popcorn is all of that and it is easy to make too.  Make some for dad this weekend and his day will feel full of love, joy and sweet, salty, spicy abundant living 🙂

Sweet and Spicy Popcorn

1/2 cup popcorn kernels
3 tablespoons sunflower oil (or any oil with a high smoke point)
1/2 teaspoon salt
Add oil and popcorn to a pan and sprinkle with salt.  Pop the popcorn over a medium high heat in a pan with a lid slightly ajar to allow steam to escape while the popcorn is popping.  As soon as all the popcorn is popped add the following ingredients:

2 cups of cheese (sharp cheddar, parmesan or pepper jack – any cheese you like but hard cheeses are better )
6 tablespoons of butter
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon chipotle chili powder
1 teaspoon paprika

Melt the butter and add in the spices.  Add the cheese to the popcorn while it is still hot and pour the melted butter and spices over everything and stir lightly to combine.  If you prefer a popcorn that is just salty and spicy this is the one for you just the way it is here.  But I would encourage you to give the sweet element of this tasty treat a try.  We think it kicks the whole thing up a big notch.  The sweet element is the addition of some Iced Nuts.  Though in the recipe attached to this link we used pecans, you could also use walnuts, cashews, almonds, peanuts or a combination of these.  Simply stir them into the seasoned popcorn or divide the spicy popcorn in two bowls and only add nuts to one if you want to have a sweet and a non sweet option as well.
