Favorite Birthday Memories

As we continue this week with “favorite things”, today we want to share with you our favorite birthday memories.  Jackie’s birthday last year was a very special one that we all were thrilled to be able to celebrate with her and to surprise her as well.
Our theme was a “Queen for a Day” and we sought to give her the royal treatment she deserves.  She has always been so kind and generous to everyone fortunate enough to be her friend or a member of her family so it was our turn to give back to Her Majesty Queen Jackie.  All three of my daughters and Jackie’s daughters-in-law arrived ready to create centerpieces

and bake the royal cake

and decorate tables, and burn CDs of “the Queen’s” favorite music as party favors for the guests coming to the party in honor of Queen Jackie’s special day.

Don’t tell her but I think we enjoyed it even more than she did.

She sounds surprised even now as she recounts that day!

My favorite birthday was one that though it happened ages ago has had a very lasting effect on me.  When I was a young child my parents very wisely decided that rather than giving my brother and me more material things (which we absolutely didn’t need and already had an abundance of), for our birthdays that year they would teach us about the joy of giving.  It was a lesson that changed me life in so many ways and that I have sought to teach my own children.  Receiving is always fun but being able to give to others, especially those who have far less than you do, is a joy without measure.  I will be forever grateful for the gift that lesson has been to me.  It set me up for a life filled with love, joy and truly abundant living!

And what a lovely surprise party it was that evening!! The food was so delicious, the guests were engaging and, yes, the dancing was fun (dancing with Jackie was such a thrill!) I, too, loved that night. I can’t wait til the next big one!!

how did you make the centerpieces

Hi Christina. We purchased the crowns and spray painted them gold and then glued on some faux pearls and jewels. Right now Cost Plus World Market has some similar crowns. You can see them on line at http://www.worldmarket.com though they are only available to be purchased at their stores and not on line. If you live near a Cost Plus World market this is probably your best bet.

We arranged the red roses in a piece of oasis (floral foam) which you can buy at Michaels or any floral supply store. We cut the floral foam to fit in the base of the crown and then inserted the roses to create the domed base of the crown. I hope this helps. Have fun at whatever the event is you are making centerpieces for and let us know if we can help with any other info. Thanks for visiting Two Chums. we hope you’ll come back often 🙂

Hi Jaely: there is no “link” for the centerpieces other than the photo which you saw in this post. We made the centerpieces ourselves. Are you maybe looking for a link for the metal crowns which we used to make the centerpieces? We have had those for about 8 years as they were purchased and used at my daughters wedding and to my knowledge are no longer available. At least those particular ones are no longer available although I have seen many that are similar in the last year. If I can find the links to any I have seen I will happily pass them along to you. Thank you for visiting with us at Two Chums:-)
